The comfort of a stranger’s wrist

glimpsed from the back seat
of a midnight Greyhound
reaching for the overhead light.
It’s the assurance of a dead-bolt
on an already-locked door.
You know you are safe, yet
it feels better, that gesture
reminding you there’s a destination,
another wrist perhaps to skim your face,
it’s been too long.
